Sustaining our Future


Energy Efficiency
NextEra Energy Resources has standardized processes and invested millions of dollars in our power plants to install new, more efficient equipment and technology. A few examples from across our fleet:

  • At our solar facilities in California, we replaced 44,000 heat collection tubes, the equivalent of 110 miles of tubing, with the latest generation, higher efficiency tubes. The retubing has resulted in a 20 percent increase in plant efficiency.
  • At our Weston hydroelectric station, we installed new turbine rotors to get more electricity using the same amount of water.
  • Our Seabrook nuclear plant in New Hampshire completed a power uprate, which installed higher efficiency equipment. This allowed the plant to generate almost 7 percent more electricity with the same amount of fuel. Our Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Wisconsin is planning a power uprate as well.
  • As our wind fleet grew, we established a centralized maintenance organization that helped establish standardized maintenance processes throughout the company, resulting in increased efficiency.

Conservation
NextEra Energy Resources makes it a responsibility to restore and maintain the natural environment surrounding our facilities and elsewhere.

  • We've donated land to governments and implemented a number of innovative programs to aid local conservation and recreational activities as part of the process of permitting or license renewal of some of our power plants.
  • Seabrook Station supports the New Hampshire Estuary Project, an organization working to improve the water quality in the Hampton/Seabrook Estuary, with marshlands adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. About half of the plant�s 900-acre property is marsh and estuary habitat for a thriving population of birds, plants and animals.
  • Many of NextEra Energy Resources� power plants use only a small percentage of land for power generating facilities. The rest of the property remains in its natural habitat.
