Two Kansas veterans holding up a NextEra check

NextEra Energy Resources is proud to give back to veterans in our community. During a recent trip to Kansas, Project Manager of Development Daniel Scheffler presented Transition Plus with a donation on behalf of our company.

Transition Plus is launching a new initiative in Marshall County, Kansas, to help veterans transition from military service. The program trains veterans for rural job opportunities, including the agriculture industry.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Transition Plus to support veterans who are pursuing new opportunities. This program is helping drive economic growth, sustainability and local jobs interests,” said Dan. “Our support will go toward an innovative aeroponic tower and an education center for training.”

Aeroponics is a system of growing plants without soil. Plants are suspended in the air with roots exposed and sprayed with a mist of nutrients to help them grow.

“Our program enables transitioning military to heal and learn a new career, reintegrating into rural America. Sustainable agriculture and rural economic growth are essential to national security, and we’re proud to help prepare veterans for these important job opportunities,” said Gary Smith, president of Transition Plus. “We really appreciate the support of NextEra Energy Resources, helping our veterans and rural communities thrive.”

NextEra Energy Resources has invested more than $1.8 billion in Kansas, including seven operational wind projects with an eighth project in construction. We are currently developing Irish Creek Wind Energy Project in Marshall County, a 300-megawatt wind project scheduled to begin operations in 2021.
