COTTON RIVER WIND PROJECT
200 Megawatts of Clean Energy in Lyon County, Minnesota
Since 2003, NextEra Energy Resources' subsidiaries have been helping fuel the state’s economic growth and quality of life and moving our country toward energy independence. To date, we have invested more than $808 million in Minnesota, including five wind energy projects.
The Cotton River Wind project features:
- Up to 63 GE wind turbines capable of generating approximately 200 megawatts (MW) of clean, renewable energy.
- Subject to local and state approvals, the project is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2029.
COMMUNITY BENEFITS
Bringing Economic Opportunities
Wind farms are compatible with agriculture and are fast becoming an important component of farm viability in Minnesota and many areas across the country. They can also generate significant economic benefits for the communities that host them.

Employment Opportunities
Cotton River Wind will create local employment opportunities, including up to 200 construction and three good-paying, full-time jobs to maintain and operate.

Landowners Payments
The Project provides approximately $2 million* in payments to Lyon County landowners — stable, reliable income families can depend on, regardless of weather.

County Tax Revenue
The Project provides approximately $103 million* in additional revenue for Lyon County, money that can enhance local roads, schools and services.

Local Spending
Wind farms provide indirect income to local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, caterers and other companies.
