KNOX COUNTY WIND PROJECT
147 Megawatts of Clean Energy in Knox County, Illinois
Since 2003, NextEra Energy Resources' subsidiaries have been helping fuel the state’s economic growth and quality of life and moving our country toward energy independence.
The Knox County Wind project features:
- Up to 52 GE wind turbines capable of generating approximately 147 megawatts (MW) of clean, renewable energy.
- Subject to local and state approvals, the project is scheduled to begin operations by May 2025.

Bringing Economic Opportunities
Wind farms are compatible with agriculture and are fast becoming an important component of farm viability in Illinois and many areas across the country. They can also generate significant economic benefits for the communities that host them.

Employment Opportunities
Knox County Wind will create local employment opportunities, including up to 300 construction jobs.

Landowners Payments
The project provides approximately $35 million* in payments to Knox County landowners — stable, reliable income families can depend on, regardless of weather.

County Tax Revenue
The project provides approximately $40 million* in additional revenue for Knox County, money that can enhance local roads, schools and services.

Local Spending
Wind farms provide indirect income to local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, caterers and other companies.
