Multiple teams from across our company come together to design a wind project. Over the course of many years, wind projects take shape, in fact there are four main phases of creating a wind site, including siting, development, construction and commercial operation.

Siting

To find an ideal location for a wind project, the right combination of wind conditions, power transmission lines, land to accommodate the wind energy center, and interested participants all play important roles.

Development

While the development stage can take several years, it is one of the most important stages as various studies and surveys are conducted before construction, such as environmental, historical and archaeological reviews.

Construction

After necessary approvals during the development phase, a wind project can usually be built in six to nine months. The construction phase includes building roads, pouring foundations and transporting, erecting, testing and commissioning wind turbines.

Once wind projects begin commercial operation, they are transitioned to our experienced operations and maintenance teams. Our sites also have remote support from an around-the-clock Renewable Operations Control Center in the United States.

The benefit?

Homegrown energy benefits us by reducing our dependence on foreign oil and strengthening our national security, and it has a positive impact on the community that extends beyond being a resilient energy source. The Knox County Wind project will add millions of dollars in additional tax revenue for Coconino County, money that can help to enhance local roads and maintain schools. It will provide construction jobs and extra income to local ranchers.
