We have an important update regarding the Red Butte Wind Energy Project. Late last year, the development team held a dinner to provide an update on the project. During that time, our survey team was working hard to beat the winter weather. Unfortunately, early snow cover prohibited teams from completing their work. This has caused a slight delay in finalizing our turbine locations and associated infrastructure. As soon as the weather allows, our teams will continue their surveys and finalize their reports. This delay will move the construction timeline into early 2021.
In other project news, we have identified additional demand in the marketplace for renewable energy and will be expanding the size of the project. The Red Butte Wind Energy Project will increase in size from 200 MW to 300 MW. This means up to an additional 35 turbines for Oliver County. The project size increase will be good for Oliver County because it will generate approximately $20 million in additional tax revenue to help support county roads and services over the life of the project. The expansion will also provide more opportunities for landowners to grow and diversify their income by hosting turbines and equipment on their land.
Finally, I hope all of you are staying safe during this COVID-19 pandemic. I want you to know our project team will be mindful of the guidance from public health officials, and is prepared to conduct meetings or answer your questions by phone or email.
We are very excited to continue developing in Oliver County. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Josh Akers at Joshua.Akers@NextEraEnergy.com or (701) 390-0216.
