RED BUTTE WIND PROJECT
200 Megawatts of Clean Energy in Oliver and Mercer Counties, North Dakota
Since 2003, NextEra Energy Resources' subsidiaries have been helping fuel the state’s economic growth and quality of life and moving our country toward energy independence. To date, we have invested more than $2.7 billion in North Dakota, including 14 operational wind energy centers.
The Red Butte Wind project features:
- Up to 120 GE wind turbines capable of generating up to 200 megawatts (MW) of clean, renewable energy
- Subject to local and state approvals, the project is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2027.
COMMUNITY BENEFITS
Bringing Economic Opportunities
Wind farms are compatible with agriculture and are fast becoming an important component of farm viability in North Dakota and many other areas across the country. They can also generate significant economic benefits for the communities that host them.

Employment Opportunities
Red Butte Wind will create local employment opportunities, including up to 400 construction and 10-13 good-paying, full-time jobs to maintain and operate.

Landowners Payments
The Project provides approximately $36 million* in payments to Oliver and Mercer Counties landowners — stable, reliable income families can depend on, regardless of weather.

County Tax Revenue
The Project provides approximately $42 million* in additional revenue for Oliver and Mercer Counties, money that can enhance local roads, schools and services.

Local Spending
Wind farms provide indirect income to local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, caterers and other companies.
