NORTH STAR ENERGY CENTER PROJECT
500 Megawatts of Clean Energy in Lac qui Parle and Yellow Medicine Counties, Minnesota and Deuel County, South Dakota
Since 2003, NextEra Energy Resources' subsidiaries have been helping fuel the state’s economic growth and quality of life and moving our country toward energy independence.
The North Star Energy Center project features:
- Up to 177 GE wind turbines capable of generating approximately 500 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy.
- Subject to local and state approvals, the project is scheduled to begin operations by December 2030.

Bringing Economic Opportunities
Wind farms are compatible with agriculture and are fast becoming an important component of farm viability in Minnesota, South Dakota and many areas across the country. They can also generate significant economic benefits for the communities that host them.
Employment Opportunities
North Star Energy Center will create local employment opportunities, including up to 300 construction jobs.
Landowners Payments
The project provides $2.5 million* in payments to Lac qui Parle County, Yellow Medicine County and Deuel County landowners — stable, reliable income families can depend on, regardless of weather.
County and Township Tax Revenue
The project provides millions* in additional revenue for Lac qui Parle County and Yellow Medicine County, money that can enhance local roads, schools and services.
Local Spending
Wind farms provide indirect income to local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, caterers and other companies.
