Our Environmental Commitment

At NextEra Energy Resources, we believe in providing energy to power our nation with minimal environmental impact. Our electricity is generated through all forms of energy including renewables, natural gas and nuclear power. We’re committed to producing safe, reliable energy while being mindful of the environment. From innovative solutions to integrating agriculture at our energy centers, we look for ways to do more with less impact. Environmental stewardship is built into every stage, from design and construction to daily operations and maintenance. By tailoring our projects to the unique needs of each community, we strive to achieve operational excellence while benefiting both the environment and the communities we serve.

Our Stewardship Approach

Responsible energy development requires thoughtful consideration of the landscapes and communities we serve. Our approach recognizes that reliable energy generation and environmental care are not competing priorities; they strengthen each other. By working closely with local stakeholders, we've learned that successful projects emerge from understanding each site's unique characteristics and respecting the natural systems already in place.

This collaborative foundation allows us to develop energy solutions that support both grid reliability and the ecological balance of the areas where we operate. Our experience demonstrates that when energy companies invest time in understanding local needs and environmental conditions, the results benefit everyone involved creating energy infrastructure that serves communities while preserving the natural resources they value.

We focus on avoiding and minimizing impacts to sensitive lands while implementing best management practices to maintain ecological health and function in or adjacent to project areas.

We prioritize stewardship throughout all phases of an energy project. During development, we assess threatened species, critical habitats and wetlands. After construction, we establish regionally appropriate groundcover to protect soil, support biodiversity, and limit invasive species.

We actively seek opportunities to conserve wildlife through actions that protect, enhance, or create habitat for species of interest. Our efforts include establishing native vegetation corridors, creating pollinator-friendly environments, and implementing seasonal protection measures for breeding and migration patterns.

We collaborate with wildlife agencies and research institutions to monitor species' populations and habitat quality throughout project lifecycles. These initiatives demonstrate how energy development can coexist with thriving ecosystems that support diverse wildlife populations.

We work to ensure landowner rights are maintained and create opportunities for agricultural dual use where practicable, while providing environmentally and economically viable energy solutions that keep energy costs low.

Our collaborative approach includes working directly with farming families to integrate energy infrastructure with ongoing agricultural operations. We support local economic development through job creation, lease payments, and community investments that strengthen rural economies while respecting traditional land uses and agricultural heritage.

We comply with federal, state and local environmental laws, regulations and permits that govern NextEra Energy Resources' operations. We have developed processes and procedures to manage these requirements and continuously seek opportunities to improve.

Our compliance framework includes regular environmental monitoring, comprehensive reporting systems, and proactive engagement with regulatory agencies. We maintain dedicated environmental teams who ensure all projects meet or exceed regulatory standards while implementing innovative practices that advance industry best practices for responsible energy development.

Stewardship in Development

Stakeholder Outreach

We engage local stakeholders, including residents, agencies and subject matter experts, to identify ecological concerns and incorporate community input into project planning.
